If you are listening to music while you’re on Facebook, you can use these music note symbols in your status updates when you post the name of the song or artist you’re listening to. You can also use music note symbols in Facebook chat or anywhere that you can type text.

Alt codes don’t work for all of the music notes shown below, but you can use any of them by copying and pasting the symbol from this article into your status update or chat box. As you can see, there are several musical notes and symbols that you can use.

Music Symbols for Facebook

♩
Quarter Note Symbol

This is the symbol for a quarter note, and it is probably the most frequently used note symbol on Facebook. You can also use it on Twitter or anywhere else you can paste text.

♪
Eighth Note Symbol

The eighth note looks like a quarter note with a flag on top. This is a great symbol to use if you like a fancier look.

♫
Eighth Notes Symbol

Two eighth notes that occur next to each other in music are illustrated by two notes joined with a bar on top.

♬
Sixteenth Notes Symbol

When you have two sixteenth notes together, the symbol has an extra bar.

♭
Flat Symbol

The flat symbol tells a musician to play the note a half-step lower, but for your Facebook updates you can use it to tell people you have a ‘flat’ tire.

♮
Natural Symbol

You could use the natural symbol anywhere you would use the word ‘natural.’ In music, it means to play the natural version of the note rather than playing it flat or sharp.

♯
Sharp Symbol

Now you can tell your chat buddies to be ‘sharp.’ This symbol tells the musician to play the note a half-step higher.

Now you know how to display all of the most common musical symbols in your Facebook status message or chat. If you know of any others, tell us about them in the comments.

Stars are one of the most commonly used symbols on Facebook. Everyone loves stars. You can use them in your Facebook status messages in in the chat window. You can even make them part of the name that displays on your profile.

People use star symbols for all kinds of things. They are good for much more than just astronomy. The star symbol can tell people that someone did something great, or that you are really happy. Some people like to surround their name with star symbols or doodle them all over their notebooks.
Here are some of the star symbols that can be used on Facebook.

Stars for Facebook

✡
Star of David

This star has uses related to art and science, but it is most commonly known as a religious symbol. There are many groups that represent themselves using the Star of David. If you are associated with any of those groups, you might want to add this symbol to your display name on Facebook to let people know.

★
Solid Star

The solid star is probably the most commonly used. It is versatile enough to be used for just about anything. Use it to tell your friends about your favorite movie stars or to show you are excited about something.

☆
Outlined Star

The outlined star with white in the middle can be used in the same ways as the solid star. It’s just a matter of personal preference. Which one do you like better?

These may not be the only star symbols that can be used on Facebook. If you know of any others, let us know by posting a comment below.

You can use a cross symbol on Facebook to express your religion, or if you’re a firefighter maybe you’ll want to add the Maltese cross to your name. These symbols can be used anywhere you can type text, so you can add them to your Facebook status updates, chat messages and name.

All you have to do to use the cross symbols pictured below is copy and paste them right into your Facebook status window. They can be used on other sites, too, not just Facebook. Try adding a cool symbol to your tweets on Twitter or on other sites you visit too.

Facebook cross symbol

✝
Latin Roman Cross

Here is a basic cross symbol to display as a sign of your faith. You can use this anywhere and most people will recognize it as a Christian symbol that is displayed or worn by people of many different Christian denominations.

✞
3D Shadow Latin Cross

Here is a shadowed version of the cross symbol. You might want to use this one if you like things a little fancier.

✟
Outline Latin Cross

Here is another fancy cross. If you enlarge it a bit, you can see that there is a black cross surrounded by white with a second outline of black.

✠
Maltese Cross

The Maltese cross is used frequently by firefighters, so this is a good symbol to use if you are in that line of work, or if you have a loved one who is a firefighter.

If you know of any more cross symbols that can be used on Facebook, please comment below and let us know.

There are quite a few weather symbols you can include in your Facebook status updates and chat messages. Best of all, they are available free of charge. In fact, you already have them. They are built right into Windows. You can insert pictures of the sun, clouds, lightning and more right into your status message.
It’s easy to find a use for these symbols because people are always talking about the weather.

Besides showing whether it is sunny or raining in your neck of the woods, you can also use them to illustrate your mood. All you have to do is copy the symbol you want to use below and paste it into your status bar.

Weather Symbols on Facebook

☀
Sun – Sunny

Maybe it’s gonna be a bright, sunshiny day, or maybe you just wish it was. Either way, you can use this symbol in your status to express your opinion about the weather. You can also use it to show that you have a sunny outlook on life.

☁
Cloud – Cloudy

Whether it’s cloudy outside, or you’re just feeling gloomy, you can add this to your status to let people know.

☂
Umbrella – Raining

Don’t forget your umbrella if it’s raining. You don’t want to get wet, do you?

☃
Snowman – Snowing

It’s snowing outside, so let’s build a snowman complete with a black top hat. This might not be as much fun as building the real thing, but at least you won’t get cold.

☄
Shooting Star

Here’s a shooting star to tell people there’s a meteor shower coming up.

★
Solid Star

A solid star can be used for many things. You can use it when talking about movie stars, your favorite singers or the stars in the sky. It can tell people that you’re stargazing or indicate what a stellar mood you’re in.

☆
Outline Star

An outline star can be used anywhere the solid star is used. It’s just a different look. Use whichever one you like the best.

☇
Lightning

Here’s a bolt of lightning for when you’re feeling that spark of electricity between you and someone special.

☈
Thunderstorm

This is a thunderstorm symbol. You can add it to your status when you tell people you’re going to be offline for awhile so your computer doesn’t get electrocuted during the storm.

That’s it for weather symbols to add to your Facebook messages. If you know of one we’ve missed, let us know in the comments.

All right, let’s cut to the chase. Using scissors symbols in Facebook makes it easier to cut up with your friends. Jokes aside, there are many other uses you can find for a scissors symbol and using symbols on Facebook is just plain cool.

You can add dashes to any of the scissors icons to make a ‘cut here’ line just like you would see on the grocery coupons you get in your Sunday paper.

These scissors symbols can be copied and pasted into your Facebook status message, chat window or even Twitter. If you can use text, you can use these symbols because they are basically just a special kind of text.

Scissors on Facebook

✁
Scissors Cutting Above

You can use a line of dashes with any of these scissors symbols to make it look like a cut line. This symbol shows what you would see if you were looking at a pair of scissors cutting from above.

✂
Full Scissors

This symbol shows a full pair of scissors. You can do just about anything you want with these scissors, just don’t run with them.

✃
Scissors Cutting Below

Here you can see the scissors as they would look if you were viewing them from below while someone cuts something.

✄
Outline Scissors

The outline scissors appear larger than the others. Perhaps they are heavy duty scissors. They kind of look like the safety scissors used in grade school.

All of these scissors can be used in your Facebook name, status and chat window. Leave a comment if you know of any more.

Do you know that you can use symbol characters in your Facebook updates and chat messages? There are quite a few shape symbols you can use that you will find listed below.

If you love geometry and math, you should be able to find a use for these characters. If not, you can use shapes to draw pictures or draw attention to your updates. Or maybe send someone a little love with a heart shape.

Here are some shape symbols you can use to add a little something extra to your status updates.

Facebook Shapes

▲
Triangle Pointing Up

You can use the triangle to point up at something on the top of the screen or just to draw attention to your status message. Use it anywhere you would use an up arrow.

▼
Triangle Pointing Down

This triangle points downward and can be used anywhere you would use a down arrow. Perhaps you are trying to get people to look for a previous status message further down the page so you don’t have to repeat yourself.

█
Tall Rectangle

These tall rectangles are great for drawing pictures. If you are talented, you can use them to make a design in your status message. It might take some practice to get good at it.

░
Dotted Rectangle

You can also use the dotted rectangle to draw pictures on Facebook, or maybe to show people you’re a little bit dotty.

▄
Horizontal Rectangle

The horizontal rectangle is actually a half-filled vertical rectangle. Only the bottom half has been filled in.

｡
Tiny Circle

This tiny circle could come in handy for a lot of things. You could use them as bubbles, balls or anything else that is round.

♡
Heart

The most common use of the heart is love, of course. You can use this to tell someone how much you care.

If you know of any other shape symbols, please leave a comment and tell us about them!

There are well over a hundred special characters built right into Windows that you can use in Facebook status updates and chat. You can even put these symbols into your display name on Facebook. Once of the special icons available is a pencil. This symbol is great for poets, writers and teachers.

If one pencil isn’t enough, you’re in luck. You can choose from three different pencil symbols to use on Facebook. Here are the three pencil symbols.

Pencil Symbols for Facebook

✎
Diagonal Pointing Down

This symbol is a picture of a pencil positioned so that it points to the right. This pencil is great to start a line with. You can add dashes after it to give the appearance that the pencil is making a line.

✏
Horizontal Pencil

This symbol also works great to give the illusion of drawing a line, or you can just add it to draw attention to what you wrote.

✐
Diagonal Pointing Up

This symbol shows a pencil pointing upwards as if someone was reaching up to draw on the wall. I hope you don’t use it to encourage graffiti! However, if you want to, you can use assorted characters such as asterisks after the pencil to make it look like someone is doodling with it.

Well, that’s it for the pencil symbols. If you know of any other cool Facebook symbols, please tell us about them by leaving a comment.

The male and female characters are two symbols you can add to your Facebook name. Perhaps they would come in handy if you have a name like Chris that could be for either a man or a woman. When someone gets married, you can display the two symbols together to commemorate the new union. You could also use them to announce the beginning of any romantic relationship.

Here are the male and female symbols for Facebook. All you have to do to use them is copy and paste them into your status window.

Male and Female Symbols for Facebook

♂
Male Facebook Symbol

The symbol for male is a circle that looks like it has an arrow coming out of it. Some say the arrow represents that man is the hunter, using a bow and arrows to hunt for food in prehistoric times. Another way to display the male symbol is by holding down the alt key while typing 267.

♀
Female Facebook Symbol

The female symbol looks like a stick person that is missing its legs. It’s supposed to represent calmness and inner beauty. You can get the female symbol by typing 268 while holding down the alt key.

You can use either one of these anywhere you can type text on Facebook. In fact, you can use them anywhere you can type text on any site, even Twitter. How you use them is only limited by your imagination. If you know of any other cool Facebook symbols, tell us about them by leaving a comment.
